Tyler and Michelle traveling down Cottonwood Canyon Road |
We left Overland Expo inspired to explore, and having a week off of work, we decided to head into southern Utah to begin exploring. Between Page, AZ and Bryce Canyon National Park lies the iconic Cottonwood Canyon Road. The well-maintained dirt road cuts across Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, dissecting the area from north to south. We picked the road up where it dumps into Highway 89, west of Page, AZ, and headed north.

The day's goal was to make it to Utah's Kodachrome Basin State Park, where we would camp for the night. Cottonwood Canyon Road winds it's way along Cottonwood Creek before cresting at Upper Slickrock and then descending down along Cedar Wash. The road covers approximately 46 miles traveling from Highway 89 to Highway 12, at Cannonville, UT.
